The Ensemble Tramuntana and the Teatre Principal Choir will perform on Friday the 31st of March to benefit the Mallorca Food Bank
The Easter Concert at Palma’s Teatre Principal will be dedicated to classicism, specifically to three great composers of this genre: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Luigi Boccherini and Joseph Haydn. The performance will be given by the Ensemble Tramuntana, conducted by Barry Sargent, and the Coro del Teatre Principal, conducted by Francesc Bonnín. They will be joined by four soloists: Roger Berenguer (tenor), Pablo López (baritone), Marta Bauzá (soprano) and Begoña Gómez (soprano).
The concert, with tickets ranging from 8 to 25 euros, will take place on the evening of 31st March, at 8 pm. In addition, the proceeds will go to the Mallorca Food Bank.
The concert will begin with Mozart‘s Missa brevis, which he composed for Salzburg Cathedral in 1777 at the age of just 21. The musical programme will continue with the great Latin genius Boccherini and Symphony 26, which he composed in 1788 for the Prussian Court. The evening will close with Haydn, Symphony 83 “La Poule”, 1785, for the Concert de la Loge Olympique in Paris.
About the concert, Barry Sargent explained that “with the death of Johann Sebastian Bach in 1750 a new musical era, classicism, was born. The programme of this concert is a journey through the decade 1777 – 1788 with three giants of classicism: Mozart, Boccherini and Haydn. All the works were composed in a time span of only 11 years”. Sargent highlighted the good work and quality of the Teatre Principal Choir, which performs Mozart’s Missa brevis in this concert.
Francesc Bonnín, conductor of the Teatre Principal Choir, referred to this piece as a milestone in the choir’s career.
