The Gran Premio Nacional de Trotting 2026 is getting ready to take over Mallorca once again. On Sunday, May 17, the Son Pardo Racecourse in Palma will host a new edition of one of the island’s most iconic sporting events, marked this year by an important new feature: the presentation of the new institutional trophy of the Gran Premio Nacional de Trotting.

The Consell de Mallorca, together with the Institut de l’Esport Hípic de Mallorca (IEHM) and the Balearic Trotting Federation (FBT), has unveiled this new commemorative sculpture created to honour the history and prestige of trotting in Mallorca while leaving a permanent legacy at Son Pardo.

The main novelty of the Gran Premio Nacional de Trotting 2026 is the creation, for the first time, of a large permanent institutional trophy.

The piece, designed by artist Anatoliy Neznamov, will include metal plaques featuring the names of all historical winners of the competition, including:

  • Name of the driver
  • Name of the horse
  • Year of victory

The trophy will remain permanently displayed at the Son Pardo Racecourse, becoming a commemorative and heritage element of equestrian sport in Mallorca.

In addition, each year the winning horse will receive an individual version of the sculpture-trophy, while the institutional piece will be updated with the name of the new winner.

Mallorca reinforces the recognition of trotting on the island

During the official presentation, the Councillor for Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard, highlighted that this new recognition seeks to “honour the history and prestige of trotting in Mallorca.”

According to Bestard, the initiative also aims to strengthen the institutional and social recognition of one of the island’s most traditional sports.

The event was also attended by:

  • Gaspar Oliver, president of the IEHM
  • Juan Antonio Rosselló, president of the Balearic Trotting Federation
  • Members of the Balearic Trotting Federation
  • Owners and drivers participating in the race

The commemorative blanket for the winning horse and the official GPN 2026 magazines were also presented during the event.
