Consell de Mallorca has launched “Petjades”, a new hiking programme aimed at people over the age of 60 with the goal of promoting physical activity, wellbeing and social interaction through routes across different parts of Mallorca.

The programme includes a total of 14 hiking excursions of between 10 and 12 kilometres, taking place between May and December, mainly on Fridays, with 54 places available for each outing.

The routes will allow participants to discover some of the island’s most representative natural and scenic areas, including itineraries through the Serra de Tramuntana, the Mondragó Natural Park and the east coast of Mallorca. Planned excursions include routes such as Sóller – Fornalutx – Biniaraix, Cala Figuera – Mondragó Natural Park, Betlem – Es Caló, Son Sanutges – Planícia and Valldemossa – Pastoritx – Raixeta – Raixa.

The Councillor for the Presidency, Toni Fuster, explained that “hiking is one of the activities that always receives the best response among older people, and we have seen that whenever we organise activities related to walking and discovering Mallorca, places fill up very quickly.”

He also highlighted that “for the first time we wanted to create a specific and permanent hiking programme to continue promoting active and healthy ageing, while also encouraging social interaction and community among participants.”

Transport, picnic and hiking kit included

In addition, each excursion includes a picnic lunch, and every participant will receive a welcome pack with a cap, backpack, water bottle and T-shirt.

Registrations will be managed through senior citizens’ associations until all available places are filled. For more information, interested participants can call 971 505 792 or 699 057 160.
