October and November 2026: Faust by Charles Gounod

Opera at the Teatre Principal de Palma

The season opens with Faust, one of the best-known operas in the French repertoire. This production by the Opéra de Lille, co-produced with the Opéra-Comique in Paris and the Palazzetto Bru Zane, comes to the Sala Gran at the Teatre Principal, directed by Denis Podalydès, with costumes designed by the prestigious fashion designer Christian Lacroix.

Performances are scheduled for the following dates:

  • Wednesday 28 October 2026: 8:00 pm.
  • Friday 30 October 2026: 8:00 pm.
  • Sunday 1 November 2026: 6:00 pm.

The musical direction is by Alejandro Cantalapiedra. The cast is led by Nicolás Cavallier as Méphistophélès, Sunnyboy Dladla as Faust and Verónica Granatiero as Marguerite. Yiorgo Ioannou, Mallorcan singer Begoña Gómez and Laura Vila also appear, alongside Mallorcan performers Joan Miquel Muñoz and Jordi Fontana.

More than 120 artists and professionals are involved in this production, which restores the original version with spoken dialogue in French. The Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears and the Cor del Teatre Principal complete the artistic ensemble.

January 2027: La tabernera del puerto

The season’s second production is La tabernera del puerto, the celebrated zarzuela by Pablo Sorozábal. This production by Madrid’s Teatro de la Zarzuela will feature stage direction by Mario Gas and musical direction by Manuel Coves.

Performances are scheduled for:

  • Friday 8 January 2027.
  • Sunday 10 January 2027.

This work brings the Spanish zarzuela tradition into the season, expanding the Teatre Principal’s programme beyond opera in the strictest sense.

February 2027: Orlando furioso

Baroque music takes centre stage with Orlando furioso by Antonio Vivaldi. This title is particularly significant for the Teatre Principal, as it will be the first work by Vivaldi to feature in the history of its Opera Season.

Performances will take place on:

  • Wednesday 17 February 2027.
  • Friday 19 February 2027.
  • Sunday 21 February 2027.

The inclusion of this work broadens the season’s musical range and introduces audiences to one of the great composers of the Baroque period.

March 2027: Easter Concert

The programme continues with the Easter Concert, scheduled for Wednesday 24 March 2027, conducted by Carles Ponsetí.

This special musical event forms part of the season’s spring cultural calendar.

April 2027: Pierrot Lunaire

On Wednesday 28 April 2027, the Teatre Principal will present Pierrot Lunaire by Arnold Schönberg in a new co-production by the theatre.

Associated with the evolution of 20th-century music, the work introduces a contemporary dimension to a season that combines classical titles, zarzuela, Baroque repertoire and new approaches to performance.

June 2027: Madama Butterfly

The season concludes with Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini, one of the most popular operas in the international repertoire. The production will star acclaimed soprano Erika Grimaldi.

Four performances are scheduled in June:

  • Monday 14 June 2027.
  • Wednesday 16 June 2027.
  • Friday 18 June 2027.
