Mallorca Design Festival 2027: dates, programme and VÉRTICE

Mallorca Design Day is entering a new stage and becoming Mallorca Design Festival. The event will celebrate its sixth edition from 8th to 12th March 2027, with five days of activities in Palma and Inca dedicated to emerging design, innovation and the connection between creativity and business. Among the main new features is VÉRTICE, a new forum bringing together brands, designers, studios, companies and institutions.

The Mallorca Design Festival 2027 will arrive with major changes to coincide with the project’s tenth anniversary. Until now known as Mallorca Design Day, the initiative is expanding its format and adopting a new name with the aim of growing beyond a single day and bringing together different disciplines and key players from the design sector over five days.

Under the concept “Raíz futura”, the 2027 edition will reflect on how knowledge, identity, materials and traditional crafts can serve as a starting point for new forms of creation.

When is Mallorca Design Festival 2027?

The sixth edition of Mallorca Design Festival will take place from 8th to 12th March 2027, with its programme spread across Palma and Inca.

The festival will once again be held outside the main tourist season, with the aim of generating cultural and creative activity at other times of the year. The programme will include national awards, conferences, round tables, screenings, exhibitions, design talks, fashion shows and a closing gala at Fàbrica Ramis.

From Mallorca Design Day to Mallorca Design Festival

The change of name also marks a transformation in the format.

The platform, led by designer and creator Raquel Arañón, was created with the aim of connecting local and national creative talent with companies and professionals, encouraging collaboration between designers, craftspeople and brands, and giving greater visibility to production linked to Mallorca.

In 2027, the project is expanding its duration and developing a programme around disciplines such as architecture, interior design, fashion, food design and landscaping, with a cross-disciplinary focus on innovation, materials and new production processes.

‘Raíz futura’, the concept behind Mallorca Design Festival 2027

The sixth edition will be built around Raíz futura, a concept that invites participants to design from their roots while looking towards the future.

According to Raquel Arañón, the aim is to explore how the knowledge, identity and resources of the territory can inspire new forms of creation. The programme will pay particular attention to the evolution of materials and manufacturing processes, as well as the relationship between design, technology and creativity.

Sustainability will also play a central role. The festival will address issues such as circularity, local production, recycling, eco-friendly materials and renewable energy.

VÉRTICE, the new forum for design, innovation and business

One of the main new features of Mallorca Design Festival 2027 will be VÉRTICE, a new space conceived as a forum for ideas, innovation and connections between design, business, institutions and the public.

Over the five days of the festival, it will bring together a curated selection of brands, designers, creative studios, companies and institutions linked to lifestyle products, materials, creativity and innovation.

VÉRTICE will be curated by the Design Institute of Spain (D!OS) and will be held at the Moll Center, with the collaboration of the Autoritat Portuària de Balears.

The space is designed not only as an exhibition, but also as a meeting point for generating knowledge, professional connections, collaboration and business opportunities.

National and Balearic Design Awards

The National Awards and Balearic Awards will once again play a prominent role within the festival, with the aim of giving visibility to emerging designers and brands and helping them connect with the professional sector.

In interior design, the best national project will be recognised, with particular attention paid to solutions that reduce energy and resource consumption, use renewable or reusable materials and incorporate durability criteria.

Fashion will include awards for the best national collection and best Balearic collection, as well as a special mention for the best emerging international collection. Sustainability, craftsmanship, innovation and slow fashion will be among the criteria considered.

The festival will also once again present honorary awards to leading figures in the design world. In the previous edition, these distinctions were awarded to Tomás Alía, Lázaro Rosa Violán and Roberto Verino.

Food design and landscaping will also take centre stage

Gastronomy will once again form part of the programme through food design, a discipline first incorporated into the festival’s awards in 2021. In 2027, several proposals will explore the meeting point between culinary creativity and design.

Landscaping, which became an independent category in 2025, will address issues such as adapting to climate change, biodiversity, water management and the relationship between nature, urban environments and tourism.

Ten years since an idea was born in New York

The origins of the project date back to 2016, when Raquel Arañón began sketching out in New York the idea of creating a platform that would enable new creators to gain visibility and turn their ideas into viable projects.

Since its launch the following year, the initiative, which initially focused on fashion, has gradually incorporated areas such as interior design, landscaping, product design and food design.

Ten years later, Mallorca Design Festival is entering a new stage with a broader programme and the aim of strengthening the connection between talent, craftsmanship, business, innovation and local production.
