The Consell de Mallorca’s 11th Serra de Tramuntana Children’s Running Circuit has kicked off in Raixa, marking the start of an exciting sports season for families. This event, which combines circuits adapted for children, youths and adults, has attracted around 250 participants within the institution’s public estate.
This year, the Consell de Mallorca Children’s Races will reach ten municipalities, including three new additions: Esporles, Estellencs and Pollença, with Cala San Vicenç as the final destination. The complete calendar of the circuit includes dates in different towns such as Bunyola, Calvià, Banyalbufar, Campanet, Esporles, Pollença, Puerto de Sóller, Valldemossa and Escorca.
The president, Llorenç Galmés, stressed the importance of sport as a tool for instilling values, and highlighted the goal of bringing sports and appreciation for the Serra de Tramuntana’s heritage closer together through these family races.
For his part, Councillor Pedro Bestard underscored the sustainable nature of the programme and the privilege of being able to enjoy sport in Mallorca’s natural surroundings, from a family rather than a competitive perspective.
The Consell de Mallorca’s Children’s Races programme, organised by Sports and the Serra de Tramuntana Consortium, has experienced significant growth in recent years. It has registered an estimated participation of 28,000 runners over the last decade. And it is expected that around 2,500 people will take part in the 2024 edition, thus consolidating its position as one of the Consell’s most popular sports programmes.
As a novelty this year, three winners of a photo contest held on Instagram will be offered Sports Stays to mark the tenth anniversary of the circuit. In addition, the races will be complemented by guided group tours in the participating villages, promoted by the Serra de Tramuntana Consortium, highlighting architectural features and local curiosities.
