The Mallorca Photofest 2026 launches its first edition on April 25, 2026, establishing itself as a new cultural benchmark on the island. This biennial festival, dedicated to photography and contemporary visual imagery, will run until August 30, 2026, bringing its program to Palma and various municipalities across Mallorca.

The opening took place at the cultural center La Misericòrdia, one of the festival’s key venues, marking the beginning of several months of exhibitions and activities focused on visual culture.

Promoted by the Consell de Mallorca, Mallorca Photofest aims to showcase contemporary photographic creation and strengthen the island’s role as a cultural destination.

As highlighted by Antònia Roca, Vice President of the Consell and Councillor for Culture and Heritage, this event represents a major step forward in positioning Mallorca as a leading space for photography, combining local and international talent.

The festival also emphasizes collaboration between public institutions and private entities, with notable participation from Art Palma Contemporani.

A festival that spreads across the island

One of the most remarkable aspects of Mallorca Photofest 2026 is its decentralized nature. The program is structured through a network of:

  • Museums
  • Foundations
  • Art galleries
  • Independent spaces
  • Town councils

This allows the festival to reach both Palma and the rest of the island, bringing contemporary photography closer to different parts of Mallorca.

Main exhibitions at La Misericòrdia

The cultural center La Misericòrdia hosts two of the festival’s most important exhibitions, both available from June 4, 2026:

  • “Grandeza y bajeza de lo espontáneo”, by Bandia Ribeira, winner of the Premi Mallorca de Fotografia Contemporània 2025.
  • “Cuando se acabe el día”, by Beatriz Polo Iañez, winner of the Premi Mallorca de Fotografia Talent Illenc 2025.

These exhibitions offer a contemporary perspective on photography, highlighting both emerging talent and new visual narratives.

The Museu de Mallorca joins the Photofest

The Museu de Mallorca also takes part in the festival with the exhibition:

  • “Negatius de sol. A dos segles del naixement de la fotografia”, opening on July 10, 2026.

Curated by Martí Llorens together with Fundació Casa Planas, this exhibition offers a journey through the history of photography, from its origins to the present day, providing a historical perspective that complements the festival’s contemporary vision.

A festival connecting past, present, and future

Mallorca Photofest 2026 combines contemporary exhibitions with proposals that revisit the history of the photographic medium. During the opening, the project Tinojay, winner of the Premi Mallorca de Fotografia 2024, was also presented. It focuses on a set of rock engravings and stands out for its powerful visual language.

A must-see event in Mallorca in 2026

The Mallorca Photofest 2026 is shaping up to be one of the major cultural highlights of the year on the island. Its duration, variety of venues, and quality programming make it a must for photography, art, and culture enthusiasts.

If you’re looking for things to do in Mallorca between April and August, this festival is a perfect opportunity to discover the island from a new visual perspective.
