Symphony comes to CaixaForum Palma on Wednesday 13th December. An innovative project that uses virtual reality (VR) technology to offer the spectator an unprecedented experience. Here you can live and enjoy classical music in an immersive way, like another musician in the orchestra. Conducted by Gustavo Dudamel and accompanied by more than a hundred musicians from the prestigious Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the public will be able to listen to the music in a unique way. They will even have the chance to go inside the instruments, thanks to Symphony’s advanced technology at CaixaForum Palma.
The emotional journey, guided by the renowned Venezuelan conductor, highlights the compositions of Ludwig van Beethoven, as well as those of Gustav Mahler and Leonard Bernstein. It is worth noting that Symphony has received outstanding recognition, such as one of the European Heritage Awards promoted by Europa Nostra and the European Union. It was also awarded the Grand Prix of the Board of these awards. It has also won awards at the Thea Awards and the 40th Vancouver International Film Festival. It was a finalist at the 74th Cannes International Film Festival.
What Symphony offers in Palma
Symphony is an immersive experience in two stages: it begins with a panoramic film that introduces the viewer to this journey and guides him or her through sounds alone. Afterwards, the virtual reality experience begins. When the viewer puts on the glasses, they will see how their surroundings have suddenly changed. You are now in the Gran Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona, sitting in a chair, and Maestro Gustavo Dudamel welcomes you. Then you are surrounded by the musicians of a symphony orchestra, all keeping silent, waiting for the conductor’s cue, who energetically gives the entrance to Ludwig van Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. The very famous four notes that begin this symphony mark the start of the experience.
The spectator will see the musicians distributed around the stage in their usual form, by families of strings, wind, brass, percussion. They will feel them very close in a real way and will fully experience the energy and the gaze of the conductor, situated right in front of them. This musical experiment will allow you to turn your head from side to side and up and down to acquire new views and perspectives of a symphony orchestra and its instrumentalists.
