From June 4, 2025, to August 16, 2026, CaixaForum Palma presents one of its most anticipated exhibitions: Zuloaga and Anglada-Camarasa. An Artistic Friendship. An intimate journey into the creative hearts of two great 20th-century painters who shared much more than art.

Zuloaga and Anglada-Camarasa Exhibition: Letters, Emotions, and Painting

The exhibition is based on the personal correspondence between Basque painter Ignacio Zuloaga and Catalan painter Hermen Anglada-Camarasa, two key figures in modern Spanish art. Through heartfelt letters, the artists shared their thoughts on love, artistic creation, and the world around them. Today, this epistolary relationship comes to life with a selection of 24 works — twelve by each artist — that engage in a visual dialogue within the exhibition space.

Both participated in the 1900 Paris Universal Exposition, where they first met. Since then, they developed a friendship built on personal encounters and intense written communication. The exhibition showcases how, despite thematic similarities — such as gypsy women, majas, and landscapes — and the influence of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, their artistic styles were profoundly different.

Zuloaga sought to paint “with the heart and brain, but not with the eyes.” And in this visual conversation with Anglada-Camarasa, visitors witness two complementary ways of understanding art.
