Exposición Medir la geografía nuevos territorios

Art becomes a compass this autumn with the Exhibition Measuring Geography, New Territories, a thought-provoking project that invites visitors to reflect on how we represent and inhabit the world. Under the title Measuring Geography: New Territories, the show opens on September 5, 2025, at 7:00 pm at the Centre Multidisciplinari s’Abeurador in Santanyí and will run until September 27, 2025.

Art as a tool to understand the present

Curated by Esmeralda Gómez Galera and organized by Es Baluard Museu, the exhibition brings together three distinctive voices: Julià Panadès, Laia Ventayol, and Mar Guerrero. Through different artistic approaches, they open a dialogue between geography, memory, and territory at a time of global uncertainty—proving that art can serve as a means to explore new ways of relating to space.

Three visions, three ways to measure geography

  • Julià Panadès transforms the debris of the Anthropocene into fragile, totemic sculptures. Built from remnants found on beaches, his works poetically reflect our environmental footprint and the delicate balance we maintain with nature.

  • Laia Ventayol works with action and collaboration, linking body, memory, and landscape. Her projects explore water-related practices and traditions, evoking ancestral connections and the intuitive search for underground wells, much like ancient dowsers.

  • Mar Guerrero navigates the intersection of art and astronomy. Her installations trace spheres and celestial maps in inhospitable landscapes, creating symbolic habitats and posing questions about the unknown—as though she were inverting the telescope to see the invisible.

An invitation to imagine other worlds

The exhibition draws inspiration from Eratosthenes, who calculated the Earth’s circumference more than 2,000 years ago by observing shadows during the solstice. Similarly, Measuring Geography: New Territories uses art as an instrument to redraw maps, recognize shifting landscapes, and imagine alternative ways of inhabiting our planet.

A must-see exhibition this September

The Exhibition Measuring Geography New Territories is more than an art showcase; it is an invitation to reflect on our place in the world and the way we envision the unknown. With works that oscillate between the earthly and the cosmic, the intimate and the collective, this show promises to be one of Mallorca’s most stimulating cultural highlights.
