The Davallament of Felanitx is one of the most significant events of Holy Week in Mallorca. An event that moves the local community and attracts thousands of visitors each year. This religious performance, which dates back to 1975, commemorates the Passion and death of Christ and reflects the religious and cultural fervor of the town. In 2025, the Davallament will celebrate its 50th anniversary, a milestone that will be marked with major innovations and an even more impressive spectacle.
What is the Davallament of Felanitx?
On Good Friday night, the Davallament of Felanitx takes place. An open-air theatrical performance held in the Plaza de la Font de Santa Margalida. In its early years, the event took place inside the Church of Sant Miquel, but over time, it grew both in popularity and scale, moving to the public square to involve the entire community.
More than 200 people take part in the performance, either on stage or behind the scenes, making the Davallament a truly unique community event. The people of Felanitx take pride in being part of this tradition that connects generations and keeps faith and local culture alive.

This year, the Davallament of Felanitx will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a series of innovations that will further enhance the visual and emotional impact of the event. Over this half-century of history, the performance has grown from a small staging to one of the island’s most cherished and anticipated traditions.
The organizers and the Felanitx Town Hall have announced a series of new features for this anniversary, promising to make this Davallament the most spectacular to date.
New features of Davallament 2025
To commemorate its 50th anniversary, the Davallament of Felanitx will be reinvented with a series of major changes. Among the highlights for 2025:
-
Multiple stages: The event will take place across six different stages throughout the Plaza de la Font de Santa Margalida. This will create a more immersive and dynamic experience for attendees. The new layout will also improve the flow of the performance by preventing all actors from being concentrated in a single space.
-
New soundtrack: One of the most anticipated innovations is the original soundtrack created especially for the event by musician Joan Martorell. This musical composition will enhance the spiritual and solemn atmosphere of the Davallament, using ancient instruments that evoke the era in which the narrated events took place.
-
Union with the Entombment procession: In 2025, the Davallament will be more closely integrated with the traditional Sant Enterrament procession, which will pass through the streets of Felanitx to the Convent of Sant Agustí. For the first time, the event will feature a living tableau of the reclining Christ, accompanied by Mary and Saint John, adding a new dimension to the tradition.
-
Live broadcast: In an effort to bring this tradition to a wider audience, the Davallament 2025 will be broadcast live on the regional IB3 network, both on television and on its digital platforms. This will allow people outside the island, and even outside Spain, to experience this unique event, which is part of Mallorca’s cultural heritage.
An event by and for everyone
As Llorenç Vadell, one of the event’s organizers, emphasized, “The Davallament is a performance created by the people of Felanitx, and everyone involved feels very proud to be part of it.” With the support of the Town Hall, the Cultural Center, the Barceló Foundation, the Parish of Sant Miquel, and thousands of hours of rehearsals and dedication by volunteers, the Davallament remains one of the most important events of Holy Week in Mallorca.
To celebrate this special anniversary, several additional events have also been planned, such as the wine pairing at the Hospicio on March 14, or the roundtable discussion on the new perspective of the Davallament at the Barceló Foundation on March 29. These events will serve as a space for reflection on the history and evolution of the performance, as well as highlighting the commitment of the people of Felanitx to their tradition.
The Davallament of Felanitx is undoubtedly one of the most emblematic cultural expressions in Mallorca.
