Palma’s municipal theatres launch their 2026-2027 season under the slogan “Omplim teatres”, with a programme combining theatre, dance, music, circus, magic, puppetry and contemporary performing arts. The new season places particular emphasis on younger and family audiences, Balearic creators and some of the city’s established festivals.
The Palma municipal theatres 2026-2027 programme has now been unveiled. The Ajuntament de Palma has presented a season defined by a wide range of disciplines and audiences, with productions and events spread across the city’s different municipal venues.
The season will run under the slogan “Omplim teatres”, a statement of intent that aims not only to increase attendance, but also to open the stages to different generations, languages, disciplines and forms of creation.
The new season also follows three years in which Palma’s municipal theatres have recorded a 71% increase in audience numbers, with an average occupancy rate of 76.4% and a 166% increase in revenue, according to figures presented by the Culture Department.
Palma municipal theatres 2026-2027 programme

The season will bring together theatre, dance, music, magic, circus, puppetry, cinema and new forms of contemporary performance, with particular attention paid to productions created in the Balearic Islands.
Among the announced premieres is Cartes d’amor, by Nine Produccions, as well as a new version of Othello, directed by Javier Matesanz from a text by Rafel Gallego and featuring Joan Carles Bestard among its cast.
The programme also includes No és un cabaret sobre la nostra pobresa, by Las Reina del Baile, alongside productions such as De la sal de la ferida n’he fet un tatuatge, by Teatre sense Concessions, Perla and Cròniques d’un mig estiu.
The aim is to strengthen the presence of artists and companies from the Islands and bring stories to the stage that are connected with the territory and the changes taking place in Balearic society.
Theatre for children and families in Palma
Family theatre will play an important role in the 2026-2027 season.
The programme includes productions aimed even at babies and children aged 0 to 3, such as Nubes con bebés, as well as shows for older children.
These include Sa Rateta 2-0, Ànima del violí, combining puppetry and live music, and Blancanieves, a production featuring more than twenty dancers on stage.
The municipal strategy also aims to strengthen links between the theatres and schools through Palma Educa. The Banda Municipal de Música will take part with concerts designed specifically for school audiences.
Shows for teenagers and new audiences
One of the stated aims of the season is to attract new generations of theatre-goers.
Teenage audiences will have productions such as Strawberry Frappuccino and T’escoltam.
The latter addresses issues surrounding relationships through social media and situations that directly affect young people, including bullying.
The inclusion of these productions forms part of the municipal theatres’ aim to broaden their audiences and bring the performing arts closer to people who do not usually attend theatre venues.
Dance, music, magic and festivals in the new season
The programme will not be limited to theatre. The 2026-2027 season will once again incorporate other disciplines and some of Palma’s main cultural events.
The announced programme includes a performance by the Jove Companyia de Dansa Ciutat de Palma, as well as the Festival de Màgia and the Festival Internacional de Teatre de Teresetes.
In music, the Ajuntament will continue to support initiatives including ME_MMIX, Festival Paco de Lucía, PalmaDansa, Fira B!, Un hivern a Mallorca and Festival de la Paraula.
The aim is to create a wide-ranging season in which contemporary languages, popular music, dance and different performing arts formats coexist.
Teatre Xesc Forteza and Maruja Alfaro-Mar i Terra
The season was presented at the Teatre Municipal Xesc Forteza, one of the main venues in Palma’s municipal theatre network.
The Ajuntament has also used recent months to carry out a number of improvements to its theatre infrastructure.
At the Teatre Municipal Maruja Alfaro-Mar i Terra, repairs have been carried out on the roof and façade, while the air-conditioning system has also been replaced.
At the Xesc Forteza, waterproofing work has been completed and the upholstery on a large number of seats has been renewed.
These improvements are complemented by the modernisation of technical equipment through new lighting, sound, production and audiovisual support infrastructure.
Palma’s municipal theatres record a 71% increase in audiences
The new season comes after a period of growing attendance at Palma’s municipal performance venues.
According to figures presented at the launch, audience numbers have increased by 71% over the past three years, while average occupancy now stands at 76.4%.
Revenue has also risen by 166% over the same period.
The Culture Department aims to continue this trend during the 2026-2027 season, with particular emphasis on attracting children, teenagers and younger audiences.
