Palma Airport (Mallorca) closed 2024 with a new passenger record, solidifying its position as one of the main airports in Spain and the Mediterranean. Throughout the year, 33,298,164 passengers passed through its facilities, marking a 7% increase compared to 2023, according to data provided by Aena. This growth reflects the recovery of the tourism sector in the Balearic Islands and positions the airport as one of the busiest in the country.

In addition, Palma recorded a total of 243,200 landing and take-off operations, representing a 6.2% growth compared to the previous year. This makes it the third busiest airport in Spain in terms of aircraft movements, behind only Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat.

The increase in passengers at Palma Airport is largely due to the sustained growth of tourism on the island and the rise in international flights. This growth makes it one of the most important destinations for airlines operating in Europe, especially during the peak summer season.

The airport also stands out as a key infrastructure for the Balearic economy, generating employment and wealth in the region. Thanks to air connectivity, Mallorca remains one of the most sought-after tourist destinations, attracting both national and international visitors.

Aena’s Record-Breaking Year in 2024

The Aena Group recorded a historic passenger record in 2024, with a total of 369.4 million passengers across all its global airports. In Spain alone, passenger traffic reached 309.3 million, representing a 9.2% increase compared to 2023. In addition to Palma, other airports that achieved record numbers included:

  • Madrid-Barajas: 66.2 million passengers (+9.9%).
  • Barcelona-El Prat: 55 million passengers (+10.3%).
  • Málaga-Costa del Sol: 24.9 million passengers (+11.5%).

The overall increase in passenger numbers also translated into higher aircraft movements and cargo transportation, consolidating Aena’s position as one of the world’s leading airport operators.

The Importance of Palma Airport

Palma Airport holds a key position within Aena’s airport network:

  • 3rd busiest airport in Spain by passenger volume.
  • 3rd busiest airport by number of operations.

Its significance is particularly notable during the summer months, when thousands of tourists arrive on the island seeking sun and beaches. However, the airport has also worked to reduce seasonality by increasing traffic during the winter months.
