Palma\u2019s municipal theatres launch their 2026-2027 season under the slogan \u201cOmplim teatres\u201d, with a programme combining theatre, dance, music, circus, magic, puppetry and contemporary performing arts. The new season places particular emphasis on younger and family audiences, Balearic creators and some of the city\u2019s established festivals.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Palma municipal theatres 2026-2027 programme<\/strong> has now been unveiled. The Ajuntament de Palma has presented a season defined by a wide range of disciplines and audiences, with productions and events spread across the city\u2019s different municipal venues.<\/p>\n

The season will run under the slogan \u201cOmplim teatres\u201d<\/strong>, a statement of intent that aims not only to increase attendance, but also to open the stages to different generations, languages, disciplines and forms of creation.<\/p>\n

The new season also follows three years in which Palma\u2019s municipal theatres have recorded a 71% increase in audience numbers<\/strong>, with an average occupancy rate of 76.4% and a 166% increase in revenue, according to figures presented by the Culture Department.<\/p>\n

The season will bring together theatre, dance, music, magic, circus, puppetry, cinema and new forms of contemporary performance<\/strong>, with particular attention paid to productions created in the Balearic Islands.<\/p>\n

Among the announced premieres is Cartes d\u2019amor<\/em><\/strong>, by Nine Produccions, as well as a new version of Othello<\/em><\/strong>, directed by Javier Matesanz from a text by Rafel Gallego and featuring Joan Carles Bestard among its cast.<\/p>\n

The programme also includes No \u00e9s un cabaret sobre la nostra pobresa<\/em><\/strong>, by Las Reina del Baile, alongside productions such as De la sal de la ferida n\u2019he fet un tatuatge<\/em>, by Teatre sense Concessions, Perla<\/em> and Cr\u00f2niques d\u2019un mig estiu<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The aim is to strengthen the presence of artists and companies from the Islands and bring stories to the stage that are connected with the territory and the changes taking place in Balearic society.<\/p>\n

Theatre for children and families in Palma<\/h2>\n

Family theatre<\/strong> will play an important role in the 2026-2027 season.<\/p>\n

The programme includes productions aimed even at babies and children aged 0 to 3<\/strong>, such as Nubes con beb\u00e9s<\/em>, as well as shows for older children.<\/p>\n

These include Sa Rateta 2-0<\/em><\/strong>, \u00c0nima del viol\u00ed<\/em>, combining puppetry and live music, and Blancanieves<\/em>, a production featuring more than twenty dancers on stage.<\/p>\n

The municipal strategy also aims to strengthen links between the theatres and schools through Palma Educa<\/strong>. The Banda Municipal de M\u00fasica will take part with concerts designed specifically for school audiences.<\/p>\n

Shows for teenagers and new audiences<\/h2>\n

One of the stated aims of the season is to attract new generations of theatre-goers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Teenage audiences will have productions such as Strawberry Frappuccino<\/em> and T\u2019escoltam<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The latter addresses issues surrounding relationships through social media and situations that directly affect young people, including bullying<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The inclusion of these productions forms part of the municipal theatres\u2019 aim to broaden their audiences and bring the performing arts closer to people who do not usually attend theatre venues.<\/p>\n

Dance, music, magic and festivals in the new season<\/h2>\n

The programme will not be limited to theatre. The 2026-2027 season will once again incorporate other disciplines and some of Palma\u2019s main cultural events.<\/p>\n

The announced programme includes a performance by the Jove Companyia de Dansa Ciutat de Palma<\/strong>, as well as the Festival de M\u00e0gia<\/strong> and the Festival Internacional de Teatre de Teresetes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In music, the Ajuntament will continue to support initiatives including ME_MMIX, Festival Paco de Luc\u00eda, PalmaDansa, Fira B!, Un hivern a Mallorca and Festival de la Paraula<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The aim is to create a wide-ranging season in which contemporary languages, popular music, dance and different performing arts formats coexist.<\/p>\n

Teatre Xesc Forteza and Maruja Alfaro-Mar i Terra<\/h2>\n

The season was presented at the Teatre Municipal Xesc Forteza<\/strong>, one of the main venues in Palma\u2019s municipal theatre network.<\/p>\n

The Ajuntament has also used recent months to carry out a number of improvements to its theatre infrastructure.<\/p>\n

At the Teatre Municipal Maruja Alfaro-Mar i Terra<\/strong>, repairs have been carried out on the roof and fa\u00e7ade, while the air-conditioning system has also been replaced.<\/p>\n

At the Xesc Forteza<\/strong>, waterproofing work has been completed and the upholstery on a large number of seats has been renewed.<\/p>\n

These improvements are complemented by the modernisation of technical equipment through new lighting, sound, production and audiovisual support infrastructure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Palma\u2019s municipal theatres record a 71% increase in audiences<\/h2>\n

The new season comes after a period of growing attendance at Palma\u2019s municipal performance venues.<\/p>\n

According to figures presented at the launch, audience numbers have increased by 71%<\/strong> over the past three years, while average occupancy now stands at 76.4%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Revenue has also risen by 166%<\/strong> over the same period.<\/p>\n

The Culture Department aims to continue this trend during the 2026-2027 season, with particular emphasis on attracting children, teenagers and younger audiences.<\/p>\n
