Mallorca will take part for the first time in Cap Butaca Buida 2026<\/strong>, the Theatre Day initiative that aims to fill performance venues in a single day. On March 21<\/strong>, a total of nine theatres across the island<\/strong> will open their doors with a special programme designed to highlight the cultural, social and community value of the performing arts.<\/p>\n

The initiative was presented in Palma with the installation of a giant theatre seat at Dalt Murada<\/strong>, a symbol marking the countdown to this day dedicated to theatre.<\/p>\n

Mallorca joins the Theatre Day initiative<\/h2>\n

Mallorca\u2019s participation in Cap Butaca Buida<\/strong> was announced at an event held at Ses Voltes<\/strong>, with representatives from the theatre sector and cultural institutions in attendance.<\/p>\n

Among them were Toni Albaladejo<\/strong>, vice-president of ADETCA (the organisation promoting the project); Rafel Brunet<\/strong>, Director General of Music and Performing Arts at Palma City Council; F\u00e0tima Riera<\/strong>, president of Illescena; and Marcos Ferragut<\/strong>, vice-president of ABSEDI (Associaci\u00f3 Balear de Sales d\u2019Espectacles en Directe).<\/p>\n

During the presentation, Toni Albaladejo highlighted that the goal of the initiative is to demonstrate that theatre is an essential cultural good<\/strong> and that collaboration between institutions and the cultural sector can mobilise audiences to fill theatres in a single day.<\/p>\n

For his part, Rafel Brunet emphasised that Mallorca\u2019s participation reflects the joint work between public administrations and performing arts professionals, while F\u00e0tima Riera noted that the event will allow public and private venues to join forces<\/strong> to create a collective cultural experience.<\/p>\n

Nine theatres in Mallorca take part in Cap Butaca Buida 2026<\/h2>\n

The day of March 21, 2026<\/strong> will feature performances across different parts of the island, from Palma to the Llevant region, the Serra de Tramuntana and Es Raiguer.<\/p>\n
