The Sa Coma d\u2019en Vidal refuge<\/strong> has reopened its doors after more than three years of closure, once again becoming a key destination for mountain lovers in Mallorca. Located in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, between the municipalities of Andratx and Estellencs, this mountain shelter managed by the Consell de Mallorca has undergone various improvements that make it more accessible and functional for hikers, school groups, and athletes.<\/p>\n

A refuge with history and natural value<\/h2>\n

Set in a privileged environment, the Sa Coma d\u2019en Vidal refuge<\/strong> is part of the iconic Ruta de Pedra en Sec, a network of trails that crosses the Mallorcan mountain range and highlights its natural and cultural heritage. The reopening of this space marks an important step in recovering one of the most attractive refuges due to its location, tranquillity, and mountainous surroundings.<\/p>\n

With capacity for 24 people, divided into three rooms (one with 12 beds, one with 8, and one with 4), the refuge has changed its management model to make reservations easier. From now on, users can book only the room they need, without having to rent the entire refuge, making it more accessible for smaller groups.<\/p>\n

Facility improvements<\/h2>\n

The improvement works involved an investment of 25,700 euros and included the replacement of the generator and batteries, repair of a water leak in the cistern, recovery of the water mine, and improvement of the access path. Although the Sa Coma d\u2019en Vidal refuge<\/strong> can only be reached on foot, the trail has been improved to facilitate the passage of hikers.<\/p>\n

Access is via kilometre 97.1 of the Ma-10 road between Andratx and Estellencs, through the entrance of the Son Fortuny estate. The ascent takes about 55 minutes with a 253-metre elevation gain. From the refuge, there are signposted routes to explore this less-travelled part of the Tramuntana.<\/p>\n

Education and sports at the Sa Coma d\u2019en Vidal refuge<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In addition to serving as accommodation for hikers, the Sa Coma d\u2019en Vidal refuge<\/strong> will also be used for sports and educational activities. As part of the Consell de Mallorca\u2019s \u201cSuma\u2019t\u201d programme, active excursions will be organised for schools, including physical activities and workshops.<\/p>\n

One of the standout proposals is \u201cNit d\u2019estrelles\u201d (\u201cStarry Night\u201d), a two-day educational stay aimed at schoolchildren with fewer resources. This initiative aims to combine learning with the experience of living in nature, offering children a sort of \u201cstudy trip\u201d in a unique setting.<\/p>\n
