The Consell de Mallorca will illuminate 96 towers, watchtowers, and talaiots this Saturday, January 25th<\/strong> during the ninth edition of the Lighting of Towers, Watchtowers, and Talaiots of the Mediterranean for human rights<\/strong>. This event, which has seen a 15% increase in participation compared to last year<\/strong>, will feature 96 towers, 12 more than the previous edition. The initiative aims to raise awareness about migration in the Mediterranean and highlight the historical and cultural value of these heritage elements.<\/p>\n

A symbolic act for human rights<\/h2>\n

The initiative is supported by the Fons Mallorqu\u00ed de Cooperaci\u00f3, the Balearic Society of Mathematics SBM-XEIX, and Amnesty International,<\/strong> which has drafted this year\u2019s event manifesto. According to Maribel Arnau, the Island Director of Heritage, the lighting serves two main purposes:<\/p>\n

  1. To raise awareness about the migration crisis in the Mediterranean,<\/strong> where many people lose their lives in search of a better future.<\/li>\n
  2. To enhance the cultural and historical heritage of Mallorca,<\/strong> focusing on towers, watchtowers, and talaiots as symbols of past connections and defense.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
