The exhibition tells the story of Cala d\u2019Or through carefully chosen photographs and texts on twenty large-format panels, which are also available as a podcast in five languages: English, French, German, Spanish and Catalan<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2018Cala d\u2019Or, the reality of a dream\u2019 tells the story of a land and a utopia starting\u00a0from the original dream of the artist Josep Costa and his collaborators<\/strong>, on a path of efforts and illusions, until reaching the Cala d\u2019Or of today, which has become a point of reference on the Mallorcan tourist map. The Santany\u00ed Town Hall presented the exhibition on Cala d\u2019Or to coincide with the 90th anniversary of its birth.<\/strong><\/p>\n

History<\/h2>\n

From its humble origins,\u00a0the first fishermen\u2019s huts were set up in Cala Llonga<\/strong>\u00a0in an area of garrigues and pine groves. It was the\u00a0Ibizan Josep Costa Ferrer<\/strong>, cartoonist, caricaturist and founder of the Costa galleries in Palma,\u00a0who promoted the development of Cala d\u2019Or in 1933<\/strong>. Costa wanted to establish an artists\u2019 colony in the area, and he did so by drawing up rules that were respectful of the environment. After the effects of the civil war,\u00a0Tomeu Pons would become the second great promoter of the area to turn it into an avant-garde place at the time<\/strong>. The tourist boom came in the 1960s and would create the seed of its future development until the present day, when it became a point of reference on the Mallorcan tourist map with its own stamp.<\/p>\n

Podcast and texts in five languages<\/h2>\n

Cala d\u2019Or, the reality of a dream\u2019 is a photographic exhibition of twenty large-format outdoor panels that\u00a0can be visited until the 22nd of May in the Pla\u00e7a Eivissa<\/strong>\u00a0in the centre of this town in the municipality of Santany\u00ed. Texts and anecdotes illustrate the history of Cala d\u2019Or in five languages:\u00a0Spanish, Catalan, English, French and German<\/strong>, which can also be listened to in\u00a0different podcasts via a QR code<\/strong>\u00a0located on the panels.<\/p>\n

Organised by Mallorca Global, the exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of\u00a0the mayoress of Santany\u00ed, Maria Pons<\/strong>, accompanied among other municipal representatives by the\u00a0councillor for Tourism, Rafael Batle<\/strong>, and the\u00a0historian Pep Estelrich<\/strong>, to whom a small tribute was paid during the presentation ceremony.<\/p>\n
